Heatwave™ Series Salvia

Breeder Howard Bentley and Steve Eggleton of Australia, have introduced the Salvia microphylla hybrids Heatwave ™ in direct response to their dry very hot climate. Water-wise salvias are well known worldwide for reveling in sunshine and dry open soils. The aim of the breeders was to purposely cross salvia macrophylla forms with greggii varieties to develop a new range exhibiting characteristics of both parents. After trialling hundreds of potential types, the selection criteria of habit flowering and heat tolerance resulted in the varieties which now comprise this stunning collection Features: * Extensive flowering season throughout warmer months * Compact, rounded habits * Very dry tolerant * Evergreen, aromatic foliage (in warm climates) Suggested Uses: * Container displays for lengthy colour * Small gardens, patios and courtyards * Water wise garden designs * Ideal for mixed borders * Suitable for coastal regions and poolside planting * Bird attracting Water Requirements: * Low, once established, quite dry tolerant requiring only occassional deep watering during extended periods of heat. Care: * Select a sunny location in most soil types which are free draining. Feed in spring with a general purpose fertilizer for the best results. After a main lowering flush, trim the plant by half to encourage further flowering and a denser habit.
